The resources listed below are some of our favorites.  These are sites that focus on measuring outcomes or the implementation of teaching methods supported by research.  We believe that the implementation of technology should be based on methods that hav proven to improve learning and the performance of use should be assessed using observable measureable data.

CAST (Center for Applied Special Technology)

CAST focuses on research on learning environments and development of software to support universal design for learning (UDL).

 


Math Resources

 

Illuminations

This site contains interactive activities that are linked to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, (NCTM) standards and based on best practice.

Arcytech

This site contains activities using virtual manipulatives that cn be implemented in research-based mathematics instruction.

National Library of Virtual Manipulatives

This site also contains activities using virtual manipulatives. Activiies are organzed by grade level, use research based implementations and linked to NCTM standards.

Visual Fractions

This site offers instruction and practice in identifying, renaming of fractions andooperations with fractions. 

Hey Math

This sites contains animated explainations of math concepts and steps for completing operations.


Reading Resources

 

Florida Center for Reading Research

The focus of this site is the dissemination of information about research-based practices related to literacy instruction and assessment.

The Official DIBELS Website

The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of standardized, individually administered measures of 3 areas of early literacy development identified by the National Reading Panediscussed in both the National Reading Pane  These measures assess Phonological Awareness, Alphabetic Principle, and Fluency with Connected Text  Each measure has been thoroughly researched and validated.


The Center for Literacy and Disabilities

The Center for Literacy and Disability Studies is located at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The focus of the center is to "improve literacy of children, youth, and adults with disabilities by developing research-based strategies, tools, curricula, and model programs".

Assistive Technology

The ATOMS Project (Assistive Technology Outcomes Measurement System)


This website provides information and results of a 5 year project on methods for measuring assistive technology outcomes.   Check out the Primer in Assistive Technology Outomes and the Abandonment Analysis.

Assistive Technology Outcomes

This website is devosted to providing information on how to measure the effectiveness of assistive technology. The site includes research on methods for asessing outcomes and descriptions of tools presently available for assessing assstive technology outcomes.

The AAC Institute

This organization provides research and tools to improve the implementation of AAC throughthe application of evidence-based practice. Sign up for email updates, a self-study course or attend a symposium. The site also has a free download of the single switch performance test.  Other software programs that support evidence-based practice can be purchased.

Assistive Technology Outcomes and Benifits

This is a journal that publishes articles on the benifits of assistive technology and evidence-based practice.  The journal is a free download.
